The Scriptures present the doctrine in sufficient passages to permit the careful student to arrive at an accurate understanding of the truth. In all, there are eleven specific references to spiritual baptism in the New Testament (Mt. 3:11; Mk. 1:8; Lk. 3:16; John 1:33; Acts 1:5; 11:16; Rom. 6:1–4; 1 Cor. 12:13; Gal. 3:27; Eph. 4:5; Col. 2:12). All references prior to Pentecost are prophetic.
